The Introduction of ShanFeng Waldorf School
A school with no social background, a school for all to study.
~ Rudolf Steiner
In 2015, ShanFeng Waldorf School became the first public experimental school after the implementation of Three-Type Acts of Experimental Education examined by the Ministry of Education. Besides, the school cooperates with the National Institute of Education for supporting the development of curriculum desings.
ShanFeng Waldorf School is a school with no textbooks or endless exams. Children turn their learning into hand-made workbooks. Qualitative assessments, like the detailed descriptions of observed behaviors are the ways to record children’s learning. Besides, based on children’s different stages of development, courses like agriculture, architecture, outdoor challenges, plays and dramas, and other specific lessons are offered. Through the curriculum, children develop their willing, feeling and thinking power in a healthy and balanced way.
The tuition fee in ShanFeng Waldorf School makes no difference from other elementary schools, which attracts families around the country, including Japanese family or children of Taiwanese businessmen, to move to Yunlin County. Moreover, the school cares about disadvantaged families. Currently, of all the students, 18% of them are from single family or new-immigrant family, and 12% of them are specially needed. The number of the students grows 4 times higher after the school transformed into the Waldorf School, from 25 pupils to 100 pupils.
